Pho Thai Hoa

1625 Kingsway, Vancouver, BC

(dined on April 26, 2008)

This is short and sweet.

I ordered the Rare Beef Pho but actually received their "Special" with sliced beef, beef balls and tripe.

Other than that, there was nothing amiss with my pho. The broth was nice and light, and remarkably free from grease. The noodles were just the right texture.

I do wish there was a bit more oomph to the broth. But I heard that there is a difference between Northern and Southern pho... so perhaps I've been used to the darker, star anise-y, ginger-y Southern broth and not the "subtle yet profound" Northern broth. I tend to like my flavors bold and punchy.

I rounded off my meal with an avocado shake. It was all right. I think I like my own better: creamier and more avocado-y, not merely icy.

All in all, though, a nice dinner.

  1. But the southerners made the (originally northern) pho popular. :)

  2. Ah, OK. That makes sense... I guess that's why I've first had the southern-style pho before...
